Official announcement will be made on June 9th, during Apple (World Wide Developer Conference) WWDC at Apple Campus, Cupertino California.

Early prediction were saying that it will be available at end of June, and be on Malaysia shore at around Late July.

HOWEVER, due to the shortage of its primary 3G component, sales might only be possible at Q4 this year.

That component can said to be the heart of the 2nd Gen iPhone. Just one chip at fifty cent, it will support iPhone 2.0 with a series of more exciting features like:

1) 3.75 Connection - I think it is something called HSPUA (correct me if i'm wrong)
2) 5.0 Megapixel Camera
3) GPS + WiFi + Bluetooth Ver 2.1 functionality
4) and etc Tongue

With all these features, it makes a lot of sense for that iPhone to be use as an Asia iPhone than the crack one which are widely been sold in the market now.

I'm not saying 1st Gen iPhone is sucks, but the crack one are.

1st Gen iPhone are never meant to be use in anywhere of the country except in the states.

For:
1) It does not require 3G, as 3G coverage is not very complete in the states. But Wifi are almost at everywhere in the states. That's the reason why 1st Gen iPhone relies so damn heavily on Wifi Connection or EDGE connection.
2) Since the 1st Gen iPhone is not come with 3G, the phone is tend to have slower transmission speed for high res image, hence, high MP camera on early iphone is not required. Plus, higher the MP for the camera, will hence require better chipset, better chipset will then require higher selling price to cope up its cost.
3) Because of the high density of Wifi Connection interconnecting throughout in the states, using WiFi to trace/navigate on Maps do make sense, by the technology called SkyHook. However, it is totally senseless to use that in Malaysia...
4) Ringtones. This is one thing which local crack iphone user will never understand why their iPhone does not allow them to assign ringtones. Well, picture this, iPhone is derived from the concept of Apple iPod which means it require iTune Store user to buy ringtones legally via iTune Store. iTune Store does not available for most asia countries (except Japan and Aussie), so are you suppose to buy ringtone if we are staying in Malaysia? Don't forget, using songs as ringtones involve with licensing and legal issue in the states, therefore, there is absolute no way for Apple allow their US iphone US to simply get a song illegally as a ringtone. Which however, it still makes a lot of sense if you were using iphone in the states.

In the nut shell, 1st Gen iphone is never be meant to be used in Malaysia. Plus, no warranty coverage at all. Those who has purchased or intended to purchase, you are bound to purchase it at your own risk!

Talking about warranty for iPhone 2.0, you will get worldwide warranty from Apple, and if you think 1 year warranty is not enough, you can always get another year warranty extension (for parts and labour) from AppleCare Protection Plan from your local Apple Authorised Reseller.

iPhone 2.0 will certainly bring you more joy and excitement, comparing to buy those cracked and crappy iPhone. More worth for every ringgit to ringgit investment for a phone. Oops... did I said a phone? Well, think about it again, it's more than any mobile phone would bring to you. So folks, lets hold your hands together and wait for the official iPhone for yourself.

3G iPhone to be smaller, lighter

"The next generation of Apple's phone should include a significantly smaller phone that may replace the existing model, according to claims by Taiwan Economic News. The paper echoes recent rumors in claiming that the device will use a plastic backing in place of aluminum but also contends that the device will be significantly smaller than the original, with a 2.8-inch screen replacing the 3.5-inch model used today. The combination of a lighter material and smaller frame is said to reduce the weight to between 3.9 and 4.2 ounces from the initial model's 4.8."
