I am unhappy with Hitachi over their supply of the HDD in the Macbooks, I have experienced - TWICE - HDD failure over a period of one year. I haven't been rough with my macbook or dropped it or anything, so this failure is not attributed to rough handling.

I am taking this macbook back to service center for advice about the HDD replacements; if the outcome isn't to my liking I will buy my own HDD (not Hitachi) from other sources and install it myself; thankfully the Macbook makes it fairly easy to replace the HDD.

People with classic White / Black Macbooks (2007/2008 macbooks) are advised to backup their data with Time Machine with a secondary hard disk and keep an eye on their hard disk.

That's real bad luck. Hopefully Apple will change HDD suppliers for their next products.

Good advice.

I have already bought a 320GB hard disk (up from 120gb!) and started restoring my Macbook.

Hopefully, this one (Seagate) will serve me a long life. Cordial Greetings
