The NeXT computer/OS was a highly advanced OS for its time when released in 1988 - featuring protected memory, preemptive multitasking, multithreading and symmetric multiprocessing and ultimately led to the decision of being purchased by Apple in 1996/7 and incorporated into many of the features shown here are now in today's Mac OS X in highly upgraded form, and with the added bonus of Steve Jobs' comeback into Apple.
