Because of its mechanical parts, there is a possibility that your hard disk can fail at any time on your Mac. Here's a utility that can help you monitor your hard drive for any indication of failure for preventive measures, especially if you're relying on the data on your hard disk and on uptime.
"SMARTReporter is an application that can warn you of some hard disk drive failures before they actually happen! It does so by periodically polling the S.M.A.R.T. status of your hard disk drive."
This is a very useful utility. It continuously monitors your hard drive(s) for imminent failure using SMART feature built into most modern hard drives and on your Mac.
One of the feature I liked best is that you can set it so the computer emails you if a problem detected, very useful especially for me because I have a server that is constantly up and I'm almost always away from the server.
An email sent to me when there is a problem will allow me to react to it faster.
Works on OX 10.5, 10.4 and 10.3
