Writing to NTFS
Unexperienced Mac users can and do come across difficulties like this when dealing with other media that requires NTFS : they can read the NTFS disk, but can't write to it.
Well, there's always a way : Use NTFS-3G.
Here's a short description:
"The NTFS-3G driver is a freely and commercially available and supported read/write NTFS driver for Linux, FreeBSD, Mac OS X, NetBSD, Solaris, Haiku, and other operating systems. It provides safe and fast handling of the Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows 2000, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7 file systems.
NTFS-3G develops, quality tests and supports a trustable, feature rich and high performance solution for hardware platforms and operating systems whose users need to reliably interoperate with NTFS. "

As with most new software critical to file systems & storage, be sure to read the instructions and precautions!!
As with 99% of the roadblocks new users encounter with using Mac during their transition, it doesn't mean it's the end. There is always an alternative way around it. The problem nowadays is that these people turn to ask other "computer" people who also don't know anything about it, because they only know Windows.
