Reading Link: Microsoft Publishes Comparison Web Page on Why Windows 7 is Better Than Mac OS X

Any thoughts?

In my opinion, there are many traits I do agree, as I've used Windows 7 as an upgrade option for some of my workstation but we reverted to Windows XP after we realized that a very important driver for our equipment was not available - and will never be (as written by the manufacturer themselves!) - for Windows 7.

But there are some biased ones as well, or it was written by someone who understood poorly how some of the things work on Macs.

Case in point, I'll just nitpick two for illustration purposes:

Quote:

"Apple's productivity suite file formats don't open in MS Office and PCs. This can be a real hassle sharing work documents with PC users."

Uh, well, if one actually understand how it works, then anyone would realize that you can export to Office file formats. Or you can buy MS Office for Macs, Apple's productivity suites are optional.

and..

Quote:

"most computer software are developed for PCs"

In today's modern world, cross platform compatibility is key. So most developers can develope their software to run on code that will run well on Macs, Windows AND Linux with some minor modifications.Read more

Reading Link: AT&T Acknowledging Coming End of iPhone Exclusivity?

"Disclosure from AT&T’s 10Q filing late Friday (6 August) suggests AT&T is preparing investors for its iPhone exclusivity to come to an end. AT&T did not reference the iPhone specifically, but added significant new language about exclusivity, citing the end of exclusivity agreements related to a “number of attractive handsets”. Importantly, such language was not found in AT&T’s prior 10Q filings (see Figure 1 for the full quote). We continue to think Apple is likely to add Verizon by early 2011, which is not fully contemplated in our model."

Reading Link: Papermaster's Apple exit a result of falling out with Steve Jobs

Mark Papermaster's departure from Apple is said to be a result of "cultural incompatibility" and losing the trust of Chief Executive Steve Jobs, and not solely a result of the iPhone 4 "antennagate."

According to sources who spoke with The Wall Street Journal, Papermaster's departure came as a result of a "falling out" with Jobs. How much the iPhone 4 antenna controversy played a part in his exit was said to be "unclear," as those anonymous sources said the departure was chiefly a result of "cultural incompatibility."

"Mr. Papermaster had lost the confidence of Mr. Jobs months ago and hasn't been part of the decision-making process for some time, these people said," authors Yukari Iwatani Kane and Ian Sherr wrote. "They added that Mr. Papermaster didn't appear to have the type of creative thinking expected at Apple and wasn't used to Apple's corporate culture, where even senior executives are expected to keep on top of the smallest details of their areas of responsibility and often have to handle many tasks directly, as opposed to delegating them."

Frash brings Adobe Flash 10 to the iPhone 4 and iOS 4

Frash, the application that brought Flash to the iPad, has been ported to the iPhone 4 and other iOS 4 devices. The application was tweaked for the suite of iOS 4 devices by Comex, a notable hacker from the dev team who helped launch the original Spirit and web-based JailbreakMe tools for the iOS devices.

This ported application is an alpha build and is reportedly compatible ARMv7 devices which include the iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 3G, iPhone 4, and, of course, the iPad. Before you jump in head first, you need to have one of the above mentioned devices, iOS 4 or iOS 3.2 (iPad), and be willing to jailbreak the device before starting.

Apple to Honor Taiwanese Mac Mini Pricing Mishap

Quote:

Earlier this week, the new unibody Mac mini went on sale in Taiwan. However, Apple accidentally listed the Mac mini with 8GBs of RAM for $19,900 NT (~ $621.77 in US currency), but was supposed to be priced at $47,000 NT (~ $1468.51 US). This of course, led to a blunder in Apple's history as the company raised the purchase price on orders from the $19,900 NT to $47,000 NT.

As you might imagine, customers were none too happy about this. With many people threatening lawsuits, and complaints from a regional organization called the Consumer Foundation, Apple has decided to honor the mispriced Mac mini at $19,900 NT.
